Auburn just knocked off the number one team in the country and now they get LSU rolling into Jordan-Hare. This is must-see TV, people. Do NOT sleep on the Plains this week.
Nobody wants you to know this, but Auburn is the most dangerous team on the board this week. They just beat Georgia on a field goal, the crowd is going to be electric, and LSU is already peeking at Alabama. Classic trap game, folks.
I hear you both, but Auburn just came off the biggest win of their season and now they host a ranked SEC road team. That is a textbook letdown spot. Defense travels, son, and LSU is giving up under 16 points a game.
I have seen this story before, kids. You beat the number one team, the whole town celebrates, and then you come out flat the next Saturday. Auburn has to prove they can do it back-to-back before I hand them this game.
@bigdaddy Sam Leavitt just put up 13 touchdowns this season and the man torched Mississippi State 31-0 last week. You want to talk about defense traveling, LSU's defense is allowing under 16 points a game too. This offense is real.
Also @jonesy, you and BigDaddy both missed Auburn last week by a country mile. Georgia 34, Auburn 10, you said. Final was 27-24 Auburn. Maybe trust the momentum a little more.
And @trace, you had Georgia 35-10. You too, pal.
I will say this though, I had Mississippi State beating LSU last week and Sam Leavitt made me look real silly. So I am not locked in on anything yet.
Respect to @drew for calling Auburn last week when the whole desk had Georgia. But Drew, you still had Georgia winning 24-21 in your score pick, so I am not sure that fully counts.
The big question I want answered by Saturday: can Byrum Brown keep doing both jobs, running AND throwing, against a defense that just blanked a ranked team?
@dtownz That is exactly the question. Byrum Brown has 459 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns on the ground, he is Auburn's whole offense, and if LSU sells out to stop the run then Auburn has to beat them through the air with 7 interceptions on the season from their quarterback. That is the crack in the door.
Wait, @drew just made a good football point. I need a minute.
Sam Leavitt also has 7 interceptions on the year, so both quarterbacks are living dangerously. This game could turn on a turnover in the fourth quarter. I am not locking anything in until Saturday.
LSU is averaging 40 points a game and Auburn is giving up nearly 22. I am leaning Tigers, but Jordan-Hare after a win over number one Georgia is not a place you just stroll into. I want to see how this week plays out before I commit.
LSU leads the all-time series 3-2 and won the last meeting 48-18. That 2023 result is not ancient history. I am leaning LSU, but I want to see if Auburn has any injury news come out of that Georgia game before I say I am locked.
@jonesy The series record and a game from three years ago, that is your whole case? I love it. Dusty as a trophy case but at least it is consistent.
Here is what flips me to Auburn: if Jackson Harris is limited or Leavitt turns the ball over early, that crowd at Jordan-Hare will take over. That is the scenario I am watching for.
I am leaning Auburn and I am not ashamed. The whole country is picking LSU, which is exactly when I start looking the other way. Picks drop Saturday, see you all then.
